Estadio Vicente Calderon, Main Stadium

Stadium Vicente Calderon of Atletico MadridThe Rojiblanco’s home is the “Estadio Vicente Calderon” located directly at the Manzanares. The stadium, which fits 54.581 spectators, is admitted by the UEFA into the five star categories which mean that it meets highest requirements and is being a possible scene of the Champions League final.

Due to its fancy architecture it is unique worldwide. The highway is running directly under the sheltered main stand. For that reason both corners are open which is not very common either. All seats are kept in club colors red, white and blue by what the empty stadium appears quite impressive. Incomparable however, is the experience when the in all respects “best fans of Spain” known Rojiblanco transform the arena into a witches’ cauldron. Singings intoned by the infamous “Frente Atlético” in the South Bank start already before kickoff. Even if Atlético loses, fans keep creating a good atmosphere until well into the final whistle.

A visit to a home game of Atlético Madrid, at best to a derby against the archrival Real Madrid is an absolute highlight which is not so fast to be forgotten!
